About Wine House Hunter Valley
Wine House Hunter Valley is a cellar door on McDonalds Road in Pokolbin that pours wine from more than 20 independent Hunter Valley winemakers rather than a single estate. That makes it a handy stop for a group with mixed tastes: in one sitting you can work through Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and more from small producers, served by staff who know the people behind each label. The experience built for groups is the Private Wine Tasting. It needs at least eight guests, and larger groups beyond 12 can enquire. Your party is seated together in the tasting lounge or the Barrel Room with a host of its own, starts with a glass of sparkling, then moves through two flights of four whites and four reds from the upper end of the range, poured into Riedel glassware. A light plate of cheese and charcuterie comes to the table, and the session runs for around 90 minutes to two hours. Bookings are essential. Smaller groups have shorter options too, including a relaxed six-wine flight served at the bar or outside on the terrace, and a self-serve Enomatic tasting card for working through some of the region's scarcer bottles. The grounds suit a slower afternoon, with a lake-view terrace, a lawn, wines by the glass or bottle and coffee from a local roaster. For a hens weekend, birthday or team trip that wants a sit-down meal, the team also caters lunches and dinners on request. There is disabled parking at the front and ramp access into the cellar door.

Frequently asked questions
How many people do we need for the Private Wine Tasting?
The private tasting needs a minimum of eight guests. Groups of more than 12 should contact Wine House first so the team can plan the session.
What does the private tasting cost and include?
It is $45 per person and covers sparkling on arrival, four whites and four reds guided by your own host, Riedel glasses and a light cheese and charcuterie plate.
How long should we allow?
Plan on 90 minutes to two hours for the Private Wine Tasting. The shorter six-wine flight takes about 45 minutes if part of the group wants something quicker.
Can we just turn up with a big group?
No. Walk-ins are fine for the standard tastings, but private tastings and any group of eight or more must be booked ahead.
Can Wine House feed our group as well?
Yes. Beyond the tasting plate served with the private session, the team offers catered lunches and dinners, so get in touch to talk through an event.
