About Pepper Tree Wines
Pepper Tree Wines has been making wine in Pokolbin since 1991, and it is still family owned. Owner John Davis, a geologist by training, gathered vineyards in four regions: the Hunter for Semillon and Shiraz, Orange for cool-climate whites, and Coonawarra and Wrattonbully in South Australia for Cabernet. The cellar door on Halls Road pours from all four, so a tasting here covers more ground than a Hunter-only estate. For a hens weekend, birthday crew or work group of 9 to 16, the Large Group Booking Experience is the one to book. A cellar door host takes the group through at least six of the estate's wines, chosen in advance, and shares how Pepper Tree came to be. It runs for about an hour, seating may be outside, and the team asks for 24 hours' notice so everything is ready. Bigger parties can phone to talk through options. The gin session adds something hands-on. Pepper Tree makes three gins from its own grapes, a traditional dry, a citrus style and an extra-dry, and a host pours a small measure of each before handing over tonics and soda so everyone builds their own drink. Smaller groups can also choose from seated wine flights, including a single-vineyard tasting and a four-region comparison, or settle on the lawn with a grazing box or a local cheese box and a bottle. There is a kids' zone, dogs are welcome, and the grounds have free parking, toilets and disabled facilities. Outside food and drink can't be brought in.

Frequently asked questions
How big a group can book a tasting together?
The Large Group Booking Experience is set up for 9 to 16 people. For a larger party, phone the cellar door so the team can work out what suits.
What happens during the large group tasting?
A cellar door host pours a minimum of six pre-selected Pepper Tree wines and talks through the winery's story. Allow about an hour, and note seating may be outdoors.
How much notice do we need to give?
Large groups need to book at least 24 hours ahead. Arrive on time, as running 15 minutes or more late can lead to the booking being cancelled with fees kept.
Is there anything for guests who prefer gin?
Yes. The gin session pours 10ml each of three gins made from the estate's grapes, then gives guests tonics and soda to build their own mix.
Can we bring our own food or drinks?
No, BYO food and alcohol aren't allowed. Grazing boxes and local cheese boxes can be bought on site to enjoy in the gardens with a bottle of wine.
