About Sydney Brewery Surry Hills
Sydney Brewery began on Albion Street in Surry Hills in 2005, and the brewhouse there is still working, now in the hands of brewer Danielle, who uses it for small-batch and limited-release beers. The bar sits within the Rydges hotel near Central Station, with the brewing equipment on show, exposed brick walls and local street art, and it serves the brewery's beers and ciders alongside pub food and live local music. The main draw for a group is the brewery tour. Guests are taken behind the scenes to see how the specialty beers are produced, with the guide explaining each piece of brewing equipment, the ingredients and how fermentation works. The tour finishes with a tasting of a selection of the brewery's specialty beers, and the kitchen's pub menu is there to match. Tours are booked online through the venue's website. For birthdays, farewells, Christmas parties and work events, the venue has a range of packages. Canapé menus run from four to twelve pieces a head, and there are platters, wood-fired pizzas including a metre-long chef's selection, and sides for sharing. Drinks packages cover house wine, beer and cider for between one and five hours, with spirit and cocktail upgrades available. Smaller seated groups can book the private dining room, which has two TVs and a handheld microphone, for a banquet menu with a minimum of ten guests. The events team handles all function enquiries by email.
