About Sydney Acoustic

Sydney Acoustic began as one acoustic duo led by vocalist and percussionist Ali Zoghi and has grown into a small collective of soloists, duos and a trio, each chosen by Ali for musicianship and professionalism. Ali has played more than a thousand events, over 700 of them weddings, and his recordings from his earlier duo, Ali & Alana, are still used by couples for aisle walks and first dances. The signature pairing is Ali with vocalist Jordyn, where both sing lead with harmonies over guitar and live percussion. Other options include Jordyn with Ethan for a warm, folky sound, Bobo and Jono with live looping of guitar and beats, Dom and Glenn on keys and acoustic guitar, and a three-voice trio of Ali, Mel and José that can build a reception up to the dance floor before a DJ takes over. Most performers hold a music degree. For ceremonies you pick the key songs and the duo times them to the moment; for the rest of the day they read the room and choose songs themselves, or you can send a list of must-plays and do-not-plays from their set list. Requested songs can usually be learned with a month's notice. They bring their own PA, which is needed for vocals to carry, and have battery or generator options for sites without power, limited to about two hours. Bookings of three hours or more need a meal and soft drinks for the musicians. Performers are based around Sydney and will travel regionally or interstate when flights, accommodation and costs are covered.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sydney Acoustic bring its own sound system?

Yes, they can bring their own PA. A PA is needed, as guitar and box drum would otherwise drown out the vocals and guests would struggle to hear.

Can they perform where there is no power?

Yes. There are battery and small generator options, chosen once they know your event details, but these usually limit the performance to about two hours.

Do we have to choose every song?

Only for a wedding ceremony. Otherwise the musicians pick songs to suit each moment, though you can ask for their set list and mark songs to play or skip.

How much notice do they need for a song request?

At least one month. With that lead time they can learn almost any requested song for your wedding or private function.

Do the musicians need to be fed?

For bookings of three hours or longer, they ask that food and non-alcoholic drinks are provided, as it is hard to leave the event to buy a meal during breaks.
