About Alan Plummer Guitar
Alan Plummer is a classical guitarist working out of Lilyfield in Sydney's Inner West, with a second studio at Linden in the Blue Mountains. He has been playing professionally since the age of 12 and was the first classical guitarist admitted to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. For more than 20 years he has worked as a soloist and accompanist, supplying background music at five-star hotels around Sydney, and he has played the Utzon Room at the Opera House, the Conservatorium and the University of NSW, as well as the Hydro Majestic in the Blue Mountains. For functions, Alan's view is that background music is a craft in its own right. He suggests sharing the general feel you want rather than a rigid list, then leaving the reading of the room to him. His repertoire leans towards classical and Spanish guitar, Bach and composers such as Moreno-Torroba, along with soulful arrangements of well-known songs, and special requests can be discussed. Weddings are a large part of his work. He plays as guests arrive and wait, then covers the three pieces a ceremony needs: a walking-pace processional that can stretch or stop on cue, a piece for the signing, and a celebratory recessional. He steers couples towards less obvious choices than Pachelbel's Canon, though that is on offer too, and he also plays at receptions and memorial services.
