About Avid Entertainment
Avid Entertainment is a team of DJs based in North Lambton that has been filling Newcastle dance floors since 2010. Its DJs regularly play the city's surf clubs, hotels and historic venues, and some have held nightclub residencies in town. Each one plays open format, starting with relaxed background music during dinner and moving between eras and genres, from 70s funk to chart hits, once guests are ready to dance. Weddings are planned through an online system where couples list their must-plays, songs to avoid and general taste, and the agency pairs them with a suitable DJ. The Gold package, $1,650, gives up to five hours on the decks at the reception, plus a pair of 15-inch powered speakers, wash and LED lighting, a white or black DJ booth and a wireless speech microphone. Platinum, at $2,250, runs to eight hours and adds ceremony sound and cocktail-hour music, while Diamond, at $4,800, brings an LED dance floor, TV screens, more lighting and a two-hour audiovisual show. For $500 the DJ will also MC. The same team covers birthdays, engagement parties, hens nights, Christmas and corporate functions, school dances and kids' discos, where DJs play clean edits and run party games. Extras include dry ice, cold sparks and uplighting, and hybrid sets can add a singer, drummer or saxophonist next to the decks. Back-up DJs are on hand if the booked DJ falls ill.

Frequently asked questions
What does a Newcastle wedding DJ from Avid cost?
Gold costs $1,650 and covers a reception of up to five hours, including the sound rig, lights and a microphone for speeches. Platinum ($2,250) runs a full eight hours and takes in the ceremony audio, and Diamond sits at $4,800.
Is travel included for Lake Macquarie and Newcastle venues?
There is no travel charge for venues within half an hour of Newcastle CBD, which takes in most of the city and nearby Lake Macquarie. Further afield, ask when you request a quote.
Can our DJ host the reception as MC?
Yes, for $500. The DJ talks through the run sheet with you first, then handles announcements, introduces the bridal party and speakers and guides the formalities.
What space and power does the DJ need?
Set aside roughly 2.5 by 2.5 metres with a power point close by, and plan a meal for the DJ during the event, which Avid requests.
What if the DJ we booked gets sick?
Because Avid is a team, another DJ who already knows your timeline, music list and venue can take over the booking.
