About Bass & Flinders Distillery
Bass & Flinders Distillery is a family-owned producer in Dromana that turns Victorian wine into its own base spirit before making gin, brandy and liqueurs from it. The distillery door sits in a modern industrial building with a rooftop terrace and outdoor seating looking across green paddocks. The original Gin Masterclass runs for two hours with one of the botanical advisors. You smell and taste traditional and native botanicals, learn how gin is distilled, then work out a recipe of your own over a cheese platter and leave with a 500ml bottle of it. For a private group, the cocktail masterclass is held on the mezzanine above the stills. Over 75 minutes a resident bartender covers where cocktails came from, and you make three drinks to enjoy with antipasto, plus a 200ml bottled cocktail to take home. Prefer something slower? The Gin High Tea pairs a G&T on arrival with tiers of sweet and savoury bites and a paddle of four gins to mix at the table. There is also a two-hour spiced brandy masterclass, and the venue manager can tailor private and corporate events across the distillery.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the gin high tea cost?
The Gin High Tea is $105 per person and runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It needs at least 24 hours' notice, and dietary needs should be flagged a week ahead.
Is there an age limit for the masterclasses?
Yes, everyone taking part in a masterclass must be 18 or over, and staff may ask for proof of age. Water is on hand throughout, as the distillery practises responsible service.
What do we take home from the gin masterclass?
Each person blends a personal gin recipe and leaves with a 500ml bottle of it. The recipe stays on file, so that gin can be reordered later.
Can we book a private class for our group?
Yes. Private gin masterclasses for private or corporate groups run Monday to Friday and are quoted to suit, while the cocktail masterclass is a private group session at $125 per person – send an enquiry with your date and numbers.
How do we get there without driving?
The distillery's own site points visitors to local private transport and wine tour operators that service the area. Organising a transfer or a designated driver is wise, as every experience involves tasting spirits.
