About The Sunroom @ Hotel Esplanade
Hotel Esplanade, known to most as The Espy, is a long-standing pub and live music venue on the St Kilda foreshore. Across its historic levels it runs a main bar, a public bar and basement, the Gershwin Room, a top-floor cocktail bar and two restaurants, and its events team books seven different function spaces. The Sunroom is the bright, glass-walled bar beside the main building. With floor-to-ceiling windows on the bay side and a retractable roof, the Sunroom shifts from an open, breezy room on a summer evening to a sheltered space in winter, with views over the water throughout. Hired exclusively it takes up to 160 guests for a cocktail party or 100 seated, and smaller groups can book a section of around 60. The adjoining deck adds an open-air area for 40, or 80 with the full deck. The room has audio-visual equipment and space for entertainment, and couples regularly use it for wedding receptions. For food, the Espy offers bites packages that mix small and larger pieces, from sushi and tostadas to mini pies, sliders and fish and chips, for groups of 20 or more. Seated groups can take the shared group dining menu, and grazing boards, an oyster station and pizza by the slice can be added. Drinks run through standard, premium or exclusive packages for two to four hours, with cocktails or mocktails on arrival and a spirits upgrade as extras. A photobooth and a DJ can be arranged through the events team, who handle each booking from enquiry to the night.
