About Costume Factory
Costume Factory is a costume hire store on Springvale Road in Nunawading, in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, trading together with Upstage Dancewear. It has been dressing people for close to five decades and was once known as J.C. Westend. The racks hold more than 15,000 costumes for hire, along with wigs, hats, shoes, gloves, jewellery and corsets. Hire happens in the store only. There are too many costumes to photograph, so the idea is to come in, try things on and mix pieces together. Staff help with ideas if you arrive without one, style the complete outfit, suggest wigs and finishing touches and check that everything fits. You can walk in and take a costume home the same day, or reserve one as much as three weeks ahead. Hire starts at $65 for one to three days. Each outfit has its own price, the fee covers professional dry cleaning, and longer hire periods can be arranged. Minor wear and spills are handled by the store, while a costume that goes missing or comes back badly damaged may need to be paid for. Bookings can be changed: paid hires are converted to store credit rather than refunded, and if your event date moves the team will try to move the costume with it. Sizes cover adults and children. The store also sells costumes, wigs, makeup and special effects products, and runs a wig styling service, character makeup and costuming for school and theatre productions. It suits themed birthdays, costume Christmas parties, work functions, and hens or bucks nights where the whole group dresses up.
