About The Littlest Costume Shop
The Littlest Costume Shop is a small costume hire studio in Preston run by one person, Mandy, who set it up after working in the fancy dress industry. Her aim is well-kept costumes in good condition, priced so that makes hiring a better option than buying something cheap online. The specialty is the 1920s. There are more than 50 beaded and sequinned flapper dresses in sizes from 6 to 26, along with furs, boas, pearls, headbands and fingerwaved or bobbed wigs. Menswear includes tails with a top hat, 1920s gangster suits and flat-cap Shelby-style outfits. Dresses can be hired alone or with wig and accessory bundles. Beyond the Gatsby rail, the studio hires character and themed costumes for Halloween, Christmas and Easter, including Addams Family, Beetlejuice and Rocky Horror looks, horror-film characters, a mascot Easter Bunny, Santa wigs and beards, and historical and regency gowns. Wig styling is a big part of the business, with styled hire wigs ranging from simple bobs to elaborate 18th-century creations. The studio is tiny, so there is no walk-in browsing: you choose online, then book a fitting where a selection is ready to try on. Appointments run on evenings and weekends, including Sundays, and a bond or card details is taken on each hire. Send an enquiry with your theme and date to arrange a fitting.

Can I walk in and browse the costumes?
No. The studio is too small for browsing, so costumes are chosen from the website first. Fittings, pick-ups and returns are all by appointment, and a selection is set aside for you before you arrive.
When are appointments available?
Appointments can be made outside business hours, including evenings and weekends, Sundays among them. If no one answers the phone, leave a message, as Mandy also teaches and returns calls afterwards.
What does a flapper dress hire include?
A dress can be hired on its own, or bundled with a wig or accessories such as a headband, gloves, a boa or fur, and beads. Bundles with both a wig and accessories cost more than the dress alone.
Is there a bond?
Yes. Each hire needs a bond or credit card details, typically $200 for character costumes and $300 for beaded dresses and historical gowns, as listed on each costume's page.
Do you hire costumes for men?
Yes. Options include tails with a top hat, 1920s gangster suits, Shelby-style waistcoats and caps, a men’s 1920s accessories pack, horror-film characters and Addams Family looks such as Gomez.
