About The Bow Tie DJ Guy
The Bow Tie DJ Guy is Richard Hughes, a DJ and MC living at East Branxton, right on the doorstep of the Hunter Valley wedding venues. He played bass in a school band, bought his first decks in 2016 and worked club nights in Newcastle and on the Central Coast before moving into weddings, where picking up the microphone to lift the crowd turned into a second role as MC. He works in a bow tie, vest and often a suit, and will match the bow tie to your colour scheme. Wedding bookings come as three packages. The Essentials package gives five hours of music with speakers, dance floor lighting, a white DJ booth lit in your colours and a wireless microphone. The Premium package adds lit totems, moving-head lights, a subwoofer, four wireless uplights and a logo projector, and the eight-hour A/V package adds ceremony and canape music, two screens with effects, a photo slideshow, LED foam tubes and a Spotify copy of the night's music. Richard can also MC the whole day, running the timeline, announcements and games. Private events such as birthdays, formals, house parties and work Christmas functions are booked by the hour and include sound for up to 150 guests, lighting, a microphone and unlimited requests. Rather than playing a fixed playlist, he works from your chosen genres and reads the room, and a do-not-play list keeps unwanted songs off. Every booking starts with a video call, and he usually arrives about two hours early to finish setting up before guests come in. There is no travel fee within the Hunter and Newcastle, and he travels further across NSW for an extra charge.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a wedding DJ package?
Five-hour wedding packages are $2200 or $2500 depending on lighting and extras, and the eight-hour A/V package is $3000. Extra hours are $120 each, all including GST.
Can he be our MC as well as our DJ?
Yes. MC can be added to any DJ package for $500, or booked on its own for a full day at $900, including a timeline planning session, coordination on the day and games.
Does he charge travel to Hunter Valley venues?
No. He lives at East Branxton, close to the Pokolbin wedding venues, and only charges travel for events outside the Hunter and Newcastle regions.
How do we secure the date?
A $500 deposit is due within seven days of the invoice, together with a signed contract. The balance is due 30 days before the wedding and can be paid off in instalments.
Can guests request songs?
Yes, requests are unlimited, but you can ask for them to be switched off. A do-not-play list means any song or artist you rule out is politely declined on the night.
