About Hunter Valley Resort + Farm

Hunter Valley Resort + Farm is a family-run property of 100 acres in Pokolbin, and its Cooking School runs out of a purpose-built teaching kitchen on site. The classes are designed for people who want to do the cooking themselves rather than watch a demonstration. A chef works the group through practical skills – basic knife technique, kitchen terms, frying and searing – while everyone prepares three kinds of canapés, three kinds of Vietnamese spring rolls and a batch of profiteroles. The session ends with the group sitting down to lunch made from what they have cooked, and each guest receives a personalised certificate. Two shorter food workshops run from the same farm. The candy class has a chef guide the group through peanut brittle, marshmallows and a boozy rocky road chocolate, and the sweets and recipes go home with you. The pizza class takes around an hour: each person shapes a base, picks toppings and bakes a pizza that becomes their lunch. Groups can also add grape stomping, where guests step barefoot into an oak barrel, or barrel rolling as a team challenge. For a hens day, a milestone birthday or a work program, the appeal is having everything in one place. After a class, the group can head over to the 4 Pines taproom on the property for craft beer, cocktails and local wine, with dinner served there or at Barrel Bistro, and the resort's 35 rooms let everyone stay on the property. Conference and corporate groups based elsewhere in the Hunter can still book a class. All classes need to be arranged in advance through the events team, who confirm the date and time with you.
