About Hunter Valley Cheese Factory
Hunter Valley Cheese Factory is a family owned cheese company on McDonalds Road in Pokolbin, beside Brokenwood Wines. Every cheese is made on site without preservatives, and visitors can see the team at work through viewing windows into the factory before tasting the range in the cheese rooms. The hands-on activity is the small batch cheesemaking workshop. Over about two hours a senior cheesemaker covers hygiene, equipment, choosing milk, enzymes, setting the curd and ripening, then shows how to drain, marinate and look after cheese at home. While the cheese rests there is a masterclass of eight cheeses with eight matched drinks, and each guest goes home with two finished cheeses, a home cheesemaking kit and a label they name themselves. Groups of 10 to 150 can also book a tailored visit that combines a workshop, guided tastings, a cheeseboard lunch or a private package. The team has hosted corporate days, client entertaining, birthdays, reunions and family milestones, with up to 60 guests for friends-and-family celebrations. Daily tastings include a cheese, wine and chocolate pairing, and the produce store stocks local pickles, picnic supplies and regional goods. Coach parking and accessible facilities are on site.
