School Formal Venues in Kiama & Gerringong

Choosing the Right School Formal Venue

Formals are among the events The Pavilion Kiama was purpose-built for, alongside weddings, concerts and conferences. The council-run venue stands on the headland at 2 Bong Bong St, Kiama, looking out over Surf Beach.

A whole year group can sit down together in the Norfolk Room, which seats up to 240 for dinner.

Planning points for the formal committee:

Seating the year: up to 240 at a sit-down dinner in the Norfolk Room.
Arrivals: guests gather on the ocean-facing balconies or in the foyer before going in.
Stage and lights: the Norfolk Room adds stage, video and lighting options.
Getting there: Kiama Railway Station and the town centre are within walking distance, and there is free parking on site.
Access: the building is air-conditioned and fully accessible.

Culinarius caters in-house with sit-down, cocktail and shared-feast menus and works around dietary needs, which helps when a year group's requirements vary.

On the headland: above Kiama's Surf Beach, close to the town centre.
Council-run: a business unit of Kiama Municipal Council.
Central for the area: Gerringong and Werri Beach lie south of Kiama, so the venue sits in Kiama itself for schools across the area.
Smaller groups: the Saddleback and Surf Beach rooms downstairs suit a smaller cohort.

On the formal night itself

Speeches: a lectern, cordless mics and built-in sound in every room.
Slideshow: a screen and projector, or a large TV.
Layout: rooms can be set for banquets or cocktail parties.
One contact: the events team works with you on layout, catering and timing from first enquiry to the night.
