About Ellie Maye Belly Dance
Ellie Maye Belly Dance is the performing and teaching name of Ellie Taylor, a dancer based in Kiama. She began belly dance, or raqs sharqi, in 2014 after dancing since childhood, and has spent about seven years performing professionally and teaching. She has trained with teachers from overseas and travelled to Egypt and Türkiye to study the dance closer to its roots, and runs small weekly classes in Kiama alongside her bookings. For events, she performs Egyptian and Turkish belly dance and works with the host to set the tone, whether that is graceful and elegant, lively, or high energy. A booking can be one feature performance or a series of shorter sets spread through the day or night, and she can come alone or bring a troupe. Props are optional and include a veil, fan veils, a cane for the raqs assaya style and wings. Music can follow your preferences, from classic tracks to modern songs or a particular regional style. Her costumes are colourful and suitable for family-friendly crowds, so a performance sits comfortably at a wedding reception with grandparents and children in the room as well as at a hens celebration or a milestone birthday. She also performs at festivals and cultural gatherings, and she will deal directly with you or with your event coordinator so that timings are agreed before the day.
