Getting High Tea Right

Ten hectares of lawns, towering figs and a working kitchen garden surround Estate Vaucluse House, the restaurant inside the grounds of one of the few 19th-century mansion estates left in Sydney. Produce from that garden finds its way onto the menus, and the tiers come from an in-house pastry team.

What arrives on the stand and alongside it:

Savouries: finger sandwiches and warm savouries
Scones: buttermilk scones with cream and fruit preserves
Sweets: small patisserie such as macarons, cheesecake and eclairs
In the cup: Ovvio organic tea and espresso coffee, with upgrades to Australian sparkling, a Limoncello, Aperol or Lychee spritz, or unlimited Prosecco and spritzes for the two hours
Timing: Wednesday to Sunday by advance booking, each package lasting two hours, from $75 per person

The menu shifts with the seasons, and bookings need at least two people.

Up to 25 can be seated in the Terrace Room, which leads directly out to the garden terrace
The team can help with styling and set up a semi-private space for a bridal shower or baby shower
Balloons, confetti and speeches need a group booking, as they aren't allowed in the general restaurant
Private dining for up to 150 can take in high tea, shared tableshare menus, long lunches or cocktail-style food
