About Novacade VR
Novacade VR is a virtual reality arcade on the first floor of 451-459 Hunter Street in Newcastle, upstairs from Newy Burger Co. and close to the Newcastle Interchange. It was built by a local VR enthusiast to show how far the technology has come, and it runs three ways to play. Free-roam VR puts the whole group in one large space where you move through the game by actually walking around. Room-scale stations give each player their own area with thumbstick movement. VR treadmills let players run through games on an omni-directional platform. The main group format is a one-hour free-roam booking for two to six players, with up to eight on games that allow it, and bookings are private to your group. Games range from shooting zombie hordes to solving mysteries together, and VR escape rooms are available within the station and treadmill formats for up to four players. It suits birthdays, team building, bucks and hens groups and couples looking for something active. No gaming experience is needed, as staff guide each player, and people who are prone to motion sickness tend to do better in free-roam. Bookings are $60 a person for an hour and booking ahead is essential. Free-roam and room-scale play is recommended for ages seven and up, while the treadmills are suggested for 12 and over and have height and weight limits. The venue has stairs and no lift. Glasses that fit inside a headset are fine, and contact lenses are easier. Bring water and a spare shirt, as there are showers on site. Intoxicated players can't play, and refunds aren't given for nausea.
