About Valley Park Riding School

Valley Park Riding School is a privately owned horse property on O'Briens Lane in Templestowe, set up by owner Trish Boys on her own land. It teaches riders across a wide range of ages and levels – from complete beginners through to show jumping, dressage and cross country – and runs holiday programs and equine therapy sessions alongside its pony and unicorn birthday parties. Pony parties suit children aged eight and over in groups of six to nine, while six and seven-year-olds can book a group of six. Every rider gets their own pony for a private one-hour group ride, after 30 minutes of helmet and boot fitting and getting the horses ready. An instructor and an assistant look after the group, and the party has two hours in a private pergola above the arena for food and drinks. Unicorn parties are designed for under-sixes: the group has a unicorn pony for an hour so each child gets a ride, with a dedicated handler and host, supplied activities, private BBQ use, a playground and two hours in the party area. A personalised digital invitation is available on request. Parents supply all food and drinks, should follow standard school rules on allergens such as nuts, and take their rubbish home. Keep decorations simple – balloons and shiny items can distract the horses, and staff may move anything that does. Parties are booked by email rather than through the online lesson system, and the school can discuss custom options for bigger groups or other times. Riders must weigh under 90 kg and wear long pants and fully enclosed smooth-soled shoes. Parking at the property is limited, so car-pooling helps.

Frequently asked questions

How many children can come to a pony party?

Bookings need at least six riders and no more than nine. Pony parties are for kids over eight, and six and seven-year-olds can book a group of six. For more riders, email the school about a custom party.

What age is the unicorn party for?

Unicorn parties are built for children under six, in groups of six to nine. The group has a unicorn pony for an hour so each child gets a ride, with a private handler, activities and two hours in the party area.

Do we bring our own food?

Yes. Parents provide all food and drinks and should follow the usual school allergen rules, such as avoiding nuts. Unicorn parties include private BBQ use, and there is no rubbish removal, so take everything home.

What should riders wear?

Long trousers like jodhpurs or trackpants (not jeans), a top suited to the weather and fully enclosed shoes with a smooth sole – sneakers aren't allowed. Helmets and boots are fitted before the ride.

How do we book a party?

Pony and unicorn parties are booked manually by emailing the school rather than through the online lesson booking system. Parking at the property is limited, so the school suggests guests car-pool where possible.
