About Eau De Vie Melbourne
Eau De Vie sits behind a heavy, unsigned door in Malthouse Lane, off Flinders Lane in the Melbourne CBD. Inside it plays the part of a prohibition-era speakeasy – low banquettes, cosy booths, a library and a whisky room hidden behind a bookcase – and the bartenders are known for theatrical serves with smoke and flame. Beyond its regular table service, the bar runs a cocktail masterclass for groups. The masterclass is a 90-minute hands-on session for 8 to 18 guests, pitched at both first-timers and people who already know a negroni from a manhattan. A bartender shows the group how to balance a drink and the techniques behind it, then each guest makes and drinks three cocktails picked from three short lists – house creations alongside classics such as a margarita, a martini, a mojito or a paloma, with a non-alcoholic option in each list. Light snacks are served during the class. The venue is strictly 18+, including for private events, and asks for smart casual dress. It is a fully licensed bar, so there is no BYO, though you can bring a birthday cake for a small fee. Larger groups can also look at the Whisky Room for up to 32, the Library's five-course cocktail degustation for up to 16, or exclusive hire of the whole bar for up to 120 guests, all arranged through the events team.

Is there a non-alcoholic option?
Yes. Each of the three cocktail lists has a non-alcoholic choice, and the bar makes its own syrups, shrubs and cordials, so non-drinkers get the same experience.
Can under-18s come to the class?
No. Licensing means every guest must be over 18, and children are not permitted even with a parent or at a private event.
How do we get there and is there a dress code?
Eau De Vie is at 1 Malthouse Lane, off Flinders Lane. Trams stop at 101 Collins St (routes 11, 12, 48 and 109), Flinders Street Station is close by, and Secure Parking is at 12–20 Flinders Lane. Smart casual dress is required.
