About Hunter Valley Sports & Social (East Cessnock Bowling Club)
Hunter Valley Sports & Social is the Cessnock club many locals still know as East Cessnock Bowling Club. It started in the early 1950s as a shed beside a single green and has grown into a family-friendly club with bars, a bistro, a sports lounge, function rooms and children's facilities, open to members and visitors alike. Bowls is still at the centre of it. There is an outdoor synthetic green, plus a second synthetic green sheltered by a solid shade structure that keeps the rinks playable in rain or summer sun. Besides competition bowls, the greens are used for roll-ups, coaching and barefoot bowls, which the club offers for birthdays, special occasions and social get-togethers. It is a relaxed game that suits mixed groups, including people who have never bowled. To book a session, email the club's reception team. Food and drink are close by. Bridges Hill Bistro serves lunch and dinner seven days, with steaks, schnitzels, burgers, seafood and daily specials, and the club bars can look after drinks during and after play. Group catering packages are offered for bowls bookings, starting at $50. For larger celebrations, the club's auditorium seats 350 at tables or up to 650 theatre style, and the team can help with decorations and audio-visual equipment for weddings, birthdays, reunions and conferences. Live music, trivia and raffles run through the week as well.
