About Otford Farm
Otford Farm has been taking riders out on its trails since 1961, and the family that runs it still keeps the place feeling like a working farm. The property covers more than 300 acres of rainforest, creeks and hills bordering the Royal National Park, and the paddocks hold over 30 horses along with goats, sheep and chickens. Accredited guides and instructors lead every ride, and rides suit everyone from complete first-timers to confident riders. There are three guided trail rides to choose from. The Rainforest Ride takes about an hour, following the river before climbing into the forest and crossing the creek a few times. The Mountain Ride runs for roughly two hours on steeper ground, and the Bald Hill Adventure Ride spends about three hours heading into the high country towards the coast. The longer two suit more confident riders. For younger children, 30-minute pony rides in the farm yard have a parent or guardian walking each pony on a lead, and private lessons are available by the half hour or hour. That range makes the farm an easy pick for a family birthday, a group outing with friends or a weekend get-together. Bookings are essential and need at least two riders. Children aged 8 and over can ride on their own, while 6 and 7 year olds ride beside an adult who holds a lead rein. There is a 100 kg weight limit, riders need long pants and enclosed shoes, and helmets are provided. Plan to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before your ride for registration, and note that Otford railway station is a short walk from the farm gate.

Frequently asked questions
How old do riders need to be?
Riders aged 8 and over can join a trail ride on their own horse. Children aged 6 and 7 can come along if an adult rides beside them holding a lead rein, and younger children can take a pony ride instead.
Do we need riding experience?
No. The trail rides cater for first-time riders through to experienced ones, and a short group lesson runs before every ride. The two and three hour rides cover steeper ground, so they suit more confident riders.
What should we wear?
Wear long pants such as jeans, leggings or jodhpurs, and fully enclosed shoes. Approved safety helmets are provided at the farm and must be worn for the whole ride.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, riders must be under 100 kg. The limit is set for the welfare of the horses, based on how much weight they can carry comfortably along with the saddle and gear.
What happens if we need to change our booking?
Prepaid rides and deposits can be moved to another date with at least 24 hours' notice, but they are not refundable. Cancellations or no-shows inside 24 hours forfeit the booking, and the farm refunds in full if it has to cancel for weather or safety.
