About Wollongong Kart Raceway
Wollongong Kart Raceway is an open-air karting track on West Dapto Road at Kembla Grange. Instead of an indoor concrete floor, drivers race on a bitumen road circuit with sun, wind and sometimes rain, and the track keeps running through wet weather. Arrive-and-drive sessions last 10 minutes each, and quick drivers can fit up to 18 laps into one. Helmets and Sodi hire karts are supplied, staff brief first-timers on the track and rules, and the karts can be slowed down for beginners. Groups have two party formats to choose from. The first is a 10-minute practice followed by a 20-lap race, and the second adds a 15-lap heat before a 20-lap final. Each group on track runs with five to ten drivers, and bigger parties are split into heats of similar pace based on qualifying times, with an extra super final available for the fastest half. Pizza and drinks can be added after the racing. Companies can book a Mini Grand Prix (half day with a sandwich and drink), The Grand Prix (full day with a catered BBQ lunch) or the Ferrari Grand Prix, which puts drivers in real 2-stroke race karts. Single 10-minute sessions start at $59 a driver, with two-, three- and four-session bundles. Every driver pays a $15 annual membership, signs an indemnity form and needs a $6 balaclava unless they bring their own. Drivers must be over 10 and at least 150 cm tall, with a weight limit of 120 kg. Alcohol is banned before and during driving. Bookings are non-refundable, and sessions called off for weather move to another date.

Frequently asked questions
How old do you have to be to drive?
Drivers need to be at least 10 years old and 150 cm tall to use the hire karts, with a maximum weight of 120 kg. The 2-stroke race karts are only for drivers older than 15.
How do party races work?
Every party starts with a 10-minute practice. Option one is then a single 20-lap race, and option two runs a 15-lap race followed by a 20-lap final. Pizza and drinks can be added afterwards.
How many people can race at once?
Each group on track has five to ten drivers. Larger parties are divided into smaller heats of similar pace using qualifying times, and a 15-lap super final for the top half can be added for a small fee.
Are there any extra costs on the day?
Yes. Every driver pays a $15 annual membership and completes an indemnity form, and a $6 balaclava is compulsory unless you bring your own. Sundays, public holidays and December bookings carry a 10% surcharge.
What happens if it rains?
The track runs in wet weather, so light rain doesn't stop racing. If conditions make the circuit unsafe, your booking moves to another available date rather than being refunded.
