About MANIAX Axe Throwing Newcastle

MANIAX runs an indoor axe throwing range at 188 King Street in Newcastle, a few minutes on foot from the light rail and with parking nearby. The venue has three group lanes and six single lanes and can handle groups of up to 150 throwers, so it works for anything from a couple's night out to a full company event. Walk-ins are welcome when lanes are free, and the building is wheelchair accessible. Every booking starts with a safety briefing and coaching from staff, who show how to throw three different types of axe and then run games and challenges between players. The Express Viking is a 30-minute taster for up to six players on weekdays before 5.30pm, and the Viking Hour is a one-hour throw. For groups of seven or more, the Urban Viking is a two-hour hosted event, with versions that add a drinks package, shared pizzas or a feast of platters. The Ragnarok package is aimed at bucks and hens groups, with a dedicated host for parties of 13 or more, and Odin's Team Challenge is a weekday team-building format. Full venue hire is quoted on request. The kitchen serves pizzas, giant beef ribs and fried chicken, and the bar has local beer, cocktails and a house mead. Throwers must be 11 or older, and anyone aged 11 to 17 needs a responsible adult on site and a signed waiver. Closed-toe shoes are required. Group numbers lock seven days before the booking, and outside food and drink isn't allowed apart from a birthday cake.

Frequently asked questions

How much does axe throwing cost?

The Express Viking taster is $47 a person for 30 minutes on weekdays before 5.30pm, and the Viking Hour is $58 a person. Hosted group packages start at $68 a person for two hours, with food and drink options above that.

Is there a minimum age?

Throwers need to be at least 11. Anyone aged 11 to 17 must have a responsible adult on site and a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, and a family pass is available for groups with teenagers.

What happens if our group numbers change?

Numbers lock seven days before the booking, and that is the number you pay for. Before the lock you can adjust numbers through the online booking, and extra throwers on the day depend on lane availability.

Can we eat and drink there?

Yes. The Newcastle venue has its own kitchen serving pizzas, beef ribs and fried chicken, and a bar with beer, cocktails and mead. Outside food and drinks aren't allowed except for a birthday cake.

What should we wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required for everyone throwing. Comfortable clothes that let you move your arms freely make the throwing easier, and coaches will show you the technique.
