About Here's Looking at You, Kid
Here's Looking at You, Kid is a family-run small-batch distillery and cellar door at 92 Errol St in North Melbourne, styled around the romance of Casablanca. Founder Liz Beech and the team distil on a copper pot still named Eliza Jane, using native Australian botanicals, and the bar is set up so you can taste the range a few steps from where it is made. Groups can book the whole space for a hands-on spirits session. There are three ways to do it. The Masterclass 500 suits two to 10 people: each guest picks botanicals, runs a recipe through their own mini still and takes home a 500ml bottle with a custom label, over two and a half to three hours. The Masterclass 200 is built for 10 to 35, with guests working in pairs or threes on a shared recipe and each leaving with a 200ml bottle. The Spirit Guide is a shorter hosted tasting of the house spirits, with the story of the distillery and time for questions, for five to 35 people over an hour to an hour and a half. Group packages include a G&T on arrival, a cheese and fruit platter, grazing boards of sandwiches, sausage rolls and vegetarian options, and beer, wine and soft drinks. Up to 30 guests sit comfortably, eight people is the suggested minimum for a private session, and smaller parties may be slotted into a shared class. Every format is adults only. Bookings are by request across weekdays, weeknights and weekends, and public gin masterclasses also run on Saturdays and Sundays. Paid street parking is close by.

Liz and Nev were great hosts, teaching us about the distilling process and helping us make our very own bottle which we got to take home. Some great drops to taste too. Get this for the gin lover in your life.
