About Butlers in the Buff
Butlers in the Buff began the buff butler format in Australia more than 20 years ago and has butlers based in Melbourne. A butler comes to wherever the group is gathering, which in Melbourne is often a rented terrace in Fitzroy or Carlton, an apartment in St Kilda or Southbank, or a house in one of the inner suburbs. On arrival he changes into the uniform of white collar, white cuffs, black bow tie and apron, with black trousers or fitted boxer briefs as alternatives for more cover. Then he hosts: greeting guests at the door, serving food and drinks, mixing cocktails, running and judging games and posing for photos. The butlers are hosts rather than strippers, and the apron stays on for the whole booking. Bookings run two hours or more, with one butler suited to 15 to 20 guests. Two activities can be booked in Melbourne alongside a butler or on their own. The hens life drawing class lasts 90 minutes, split evenly between drawing a male model and butler service, and the model brings every material, so the room needs only a wall, some chairs and space to pose. The cocktail masterclass runs two hours with a mixologist who supplies the spirits, mixers and glassware. For a standard butler booking, drinks, food and trays come from the host, along with a private room to change in. Leave a buffer of up to an hour around the booked time for parking or access delays, and mention stairs or parking when booking a terrace. Every booking carries public and commercial insurance.

Frequently asked questions
Will a butler come to a Victorian terrace in Melbourne?
Yes. Terraces in Fitzroy and Carlton are popular bookings. Tell the team about stairs and parking when you book so the butler can plan his arrival.
Does the butler strip during the booking?
No. The butlers are party hosts, not strippers, and the apron stays on for the whole booking. Groups wanting more cover can ask for black trousers or fitted boxer briefs.
How long does the Melbourne life drawing class run?
The standard class is 90 minutes: 45 minutes of drawing, then 45 minutes of the model serving drinks and running games as a butler. Another 30 minutes can be added for $100.
What does the host need to supply for a butler booking?
You supply the drinks, food and serving trays. The butler also needs somewhere private, like a spare bedroom or bathroom, to get changed in when he arrives.
Is life drawing a good fit for a wet Melbourne weekend?
Yes. The class runs indoors at your own venue, so the weather has no effect, and many groups follow it with dinner or a laneway bar later in the evening.
