About Social Event Hire
Social Event Hire is a furniture and tableware hire company with its main showroom in Port Melbourne. It grew out of Place Settings, which began hiring kitchenware from a suburban Melbourne garage in the mid-1990s, and its sister furniture brand Innovative Hiring. The two were brought together under the Social name, and the range now runs to more than 2,500 product lines. The catalogue covers everything that fills a room: chairs, stools, armchairs, lounges, ottomans, banquet seating and benches; dining, café and bar tables; feature bars and food stations; and glassware, crockery, cutlery and service equipment. Much of it is grouped into matching collections such as Aspen, Duke, Lenny, Kenzo and Chesterfield, so a planner can keep one look running from the ceremony to the dance floor. Design props round it out – bikes and carts, pergolas and arbours, wire screens, cubes and light-up wire letters. Furniture always goes out on their own trucks, and the crew delivers, places the pieces and comes back to collect them. Tableware and décor are left neatly stacked for the caterers or stylist, and tableware, cutlery and linen can be picked up from the warehouse instead. Quotes are built online item by item, then the team adds delivery, staffing and a damage waiver to give one complete price. Furniture is delivered, set up and collected by their crew, while tableware is left stacked for caterers. Delivery runs 7am–6pm seven days at standard rates, with after-hours slots on request.
A damage waiver covers normal wear and standard glass breakage. Outdoor-rated pieces are tagged in the catalogue.

Can I see the furniture before I hire it?
Yes. Social Event Hire has a showroom in Port Melbourne that you can visit by appointment. Let the team know which pieces you want to see so they can have them out for you.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes. Orders delivered within metropolitan Melbourne need a minimum hire spend of $500 plus GST, and warehouse collection orders need $250 plus GST. Delivery, collection and the damage waiver are charged on top.
Will they set the furniture up?
Yes. Their crew places all the furniture for you. Tableware and décor pieces are left neatly stacked so your caterers or stylist can lay them out.
Can I collect the hire myself?
Only for cutlery, crockery, glassware and linen. Furniture must be delivered and collected by the Social team so it arrives in good condition and is installed properly.
Can I change my order after paying the deposit?
Yes. Once your order is confirmed you can still adjust it for changes in guest numbers or to allow for the weather on the day.
