About Go Shooting

Go Shooting has been introducing beginners to clay target shooting since 1999, when Olympic gold medallist Russell Mark and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lauryn Mark set the business up. Its Victorian events are run by director Adam Scott, a long-serving Go Shooting instructor, at the Werribee Victorian Clay Target Club on Ballan Road in Quandong. The range has 11 traps spread across six stands, which lets the instructors pitch the targets to the people in front of them. A private package gives your group the range and an instructor to itself. Everyone starts with a full safety briefing and ten practice targets to get used to the shotgun, then moves into a twenty-target competition mixing single and double targets. Prizes go to the top three shooters, and extra prizes for top lady or top team can be arranged. Anyone who hits all twenty earns a free return visit and a place on the leaderboard. Shotguns are Beretta 12 gauge with low-recoil target loads, and instructors handle all loading and unloading inside a safety cage. No firearms licence or past experience is required, the minimum age is 12, and women regularly outshoot the men. Groups of one to 80 can be catered for, and the price per head drops as numbers grow, which suits bucks and hens parties, milestone birthdays and work team days. Bus transport, catering or BBQ hire and a bar tab can be added to the day. The range has a strict zero alcohol and drugs rule before and during shooting, so any drinks wait until the competition is over. Send an enquiry to book a date.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private group package cost?

Pricing is scaled by group size. One or two people pay $555 for the group, three to four pay $235 each, nine to ten pay $189 each, 15 to 24 pay $175 each, and groups of 25 or more pay $155 each.

Do we need a gun licence or any shooting experience?

No. Nobody needs a firearms licence or previous experience. Every session opens with a safety briefing and a practical demonstration, and an instructor coaches each shooter through the practice round.

Is there a minimum age?

Shooters must be at least 12 years old. The activity is open to everyone regardless of gender, and the instructors work with all levels of ability.

Can we drink during the day?

Not while shooting. Go Shooting enforces a zero blood alcohol and drugs policy before and during the activity. A bar tab can be arranged to enjoy once the shooting has finished.

What should we wear?

Weather-appropriate, comfortable clothes and flat closed-toe shoes. Singlets, thongs and camouflage gear are not allowed, and jackets with big collars get in the way of the shotgun. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and any distance glasses you use.
