Bistro Moncur is a long-running French bistro on Queen Street in Woollahra, and its wine store, Moncur Cellars, hides one of the eastern suburbs' most atmospheric private rooms. The Wine Room is exactly that: a single dining table surrounded on every side by timber shelving packed with bottles. It's set for 10 to 16 guests and feels relaxed rather than formal, with warm light bouncing off the timber and the wine. You can use it simply as a private room, with Bistro Moncur's food, wine and service brought to you, or book the four-course feasting menu, where a wine expert from Moncur Cellars joins the table and you drink from the shop's range at retail prices. The food is the bistro's own — French classics such as the onion soufflé gratin, chicken liver pâté, chateaubriand with café de Paris butter and a well-stocked dessert list. For bigger numbers, the bistro also runs the Queen Street Lounge upstairs in the Woollahra Hotel next door, for up to 40 seated or 80 standing.
