The Henson Park Hotel, known simply as The Henson, has stood at 91 Illawarra Road in Marrickville since 1936. It is an independent pub with no poker machines, and it trades seven days a week as a local meeting place with a front public bar, a bistro dining room, a smaller side bar and a leafy beer garden. For a function the pub offers two broad options. Smaller groups can book enough tables in one of the areas, while larger parties of about 60 to 100 guests can take exclusive use of the venue. The side bar is the most private corner, fitted out with red leather booths, and the beer garden gives an open-air option with timber tables under the trees. The front bar keeps its old-school character with a pool table and sport on the screens. Food comes from the pub kitchen, which cooks classic pub dishes, curries, plant-based plates and share snacks, and there is a set function menu for events. The kitchen can cater for groups of different sizes, and with enough notice the team will work around guests' dietary needs.
