Paint Clay Sip is a pair of pottery studios on Dickson Avenue in Artarmon, run by the small independent team behind Print Paint Pot. The pink studio at number 27 is the party room, decorated in a tropical holiday theme, while the green studio at 53 hosts wheel classes on weekday mornings and afternoons. Sessions are BYO, so groups bring their own drinks and snacks while a teacher shows them how to shape clay. There are two ways to make something. Wheel throwing is the messier, more technical option and suits groups of two to fifteen in a two-hour class. Hand building uses slabs and tools to make a mug, vase, planter or other vessel, and is less messy, which is why it is often chosen for hens parties and team events. Groups of sixteen to thirty usually split in two and swap halfway through a two to three hour party, and hand building classes can take larger numbers again. Every guest's work is trimmed, glazed and fired to stoneware, so the finished pieces can go in the dishwasher, oven and microwave. Private classes include two fired pots per guest, with extra pieces at $15 each. Pieces can be picked up or posted. Children from eight can join a private class, parking is easiest after 5pm on weekdays and on weekends, and a bus from Chatswood station stops nearby.
