About Picton Karting Track
Picton Karting Track is an outdoor go kart circuit on Picton Road at Maldon, just outside Picton on Sydney's south-western fringe. The 640-metre layout has flowing bends, a tight chicane, a hairpin and a long straight, and it runs in daylight or under lights. The fleet of more than 80 karts is built on Italian TB Kart chassis, with junior 7HP karts for kids, 13HP and 18HP Honda-powered karts for teens and adults, twin-seat karts for a parent and a young passenger, and 23HP Rotax two-stroke karts for drivers who want real speed. Groups of 10 or more can book the Grand Prix format and have the track to themselves. The shortest version, the Mini Grand Prix, takes about two hours and includes a 10-minute qualifying session and a 12-minute grid-start final, while the longer packages add extra heats and run for up to about four hours. Every Grand Prix includes registration, a personal balaclava, live lap timing and a presentation with medals, and up to 20 karts can be on track at once. Kids aged 7 to 14 have their own party version in the junior karts for groups of 8 to 32, and smaller groups of 1 to 9 can join the public races, which run in 10-minute sessions. Other formats include a Rotax Grand Prix for as few as five drivers, which starts in 18HP karts before switching to the 23HP two-strokes, and team endurance racing, where crews share karts in a non-stop tag-team race lasting anywhere from one hour to eight. The track suits bucks and hens days, birthdays, work Christmas parties and team building. Between races there is covered outdoor seating, and the kiosk sells hot and cold drinks, pies, sausage rolls and sweets. Drivers need enclosed flat shoes and should arrive 45 minutes to an hour before their session for check-in and the safety briefing.

How much does a group race day cost?
The kids' Mini Grand Prix in 7HP junior karts is $80 per person and the full junior Grand Prix is $105. For adults, the Mini Grand Prix is $85 per person in 13HP karts or $135 in 18HP karts, rising to $210 and $300 for the longest Deluxe format. Rotax 23HP packages start at $335 per person.
How many drivers do we need?
Adult Grand Prix packages need at least 10 drivers and take up to 60, and as many as 20 karts can share the circuit. Kids' parties take 8 to 32 drivers. The Rotax Grand Prix can run with as few as five drivers, and groups smaller than that can book into the public races.
What are the age and size limits?
Junior karts are for ages 7 to 13 who are over one metre tall. The 13HP karts are for drivers 14 and over, and the 18HP and 23HP karts are for 17 and over. Adult karts need drivers to be over 1.4 metres tall and no more than 130 kg. To drive the 23HP karts you first need two races in the 18HP karts.
What happens if it rains?
Racing goes ahead in the wet, but groups booked in 18HP karts are moved into 13HP karts on a wet track. In extreme weather the track may close, in which case the team contacts you and your deposit moves to the new date.
Is there food at the track?
Yes. The kiosk sells hot and cold drinks, pies, sausage rolls and confectionery, and there is outdoor seating between races. Alcohol isn't served, and anyone affected by alcohol or drugs won't be allowed to drive.
