About PowerPlay Northmead

PowerPlay Northmead is the Sydney outpost of a company-owned karting chain started by Glenn Macneall, who spent 25 years in international motorsport as a World Rally co-driver. The venue sits in a unit on Redbank Road, a short drive from Parramatta, and is built around a two-storey indoor circuit of about 200 metres. Ramps, a bridge and a tunnel break up the lap, and the surface is kept slightly slick on purpose so drivers can slide through corners. The karts are electric, which means instant power and no exhaust fumes, and the building is air-conditioned. For groups, the adult packages hand you exclusive use of the track. The Mini-Play format for up to eight racers is a 15-lap qualifying run followed by an 18-lap race from a grid start, and larger packages add a practice session and a final split into winners and losers. Eight karts run at once, so bigger groups race in heats, and anything over 24 people gets a tailored quote. Every package includes a balaclava per driver, a private safety briefing and a function zone with tables that is kept apart from the spectator area. Kids birthday packages cover ages 10 to 15 and include a party zone for an hour after racing. There is no in-house catering, so bring platters or order food in for the function zone. Drivers must be at least 10 years old, 140 cm or taller and under 120 kg, and enclosed shoes are compulsory. Costumes are fine for hens and bucks as long as nothing hangs over the side of the kart. Group slots are limited on Friday evenings, weekends and school holidays.

A single adult race of 18 laps is $37 per person, two races are $67 and three are $97. Juniors aged 10 to 15 pay $33 for a 15-lap race, $63 for two and $93 for three. Adult group packages start at $547 for up to eight racers with exclusive track use. Kids party packages are $297 for up to eight children or $527 for up to 16 with one race each, and $497 or $987 with two races each. Group bookings need a deposit of between $200 and $500, with the balance paid on the day.

Food

PowerPlay has no in-house catering, but groups can bring their own food or order it in, and the function zone has tables and seating for setting it out.

Open seven days from 10am to 9pm, and from 9am on Saturdays, including public holidays; closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Group packages have limited availability after 5pm on Fridays, on weekends and during school holidays, so book early for those times.

What's Included

A safety video and briefing, tips from track staff, a full-face helmet (replaced every six months), a four-point harness and your own balaclava to keep with group packages. Lap times are shown on a big-screen leaderboard and results are emailed after the race. Group packages add exclusive track use and a private function zone.

How many people can race together?

Eight karts go out at a time, so packages are built around groups of eight, 16 and 24. For more than 24 people, PowerPlay puts together a custom package for your group.

Yes. Drivers need to be 10 or older, 140 cm or taller and under 120 kg. Adult races (16 and over) run 18 laps and junior races (10 to 15) run 15 laps.

Can we bring our own food?

Yes. PowerPlay doesn't cater, but you can bring food or have it delivered, and group bookings get a function zone with seating and tables to set it up.

What should we wear, and how early should we arrive?

Wear enclosed shoes (no thongs, Crocs, sandals or heels) and avoid loose clothing. Arrive 20 minutes before your session to register. Everyone wears a balaclava under the helmet; group packages include one, otherwise bring your own or buy one for $4.
