About Estrella Strings
Estrella Strings is a group of string players based on the Gold Coast, set up by violinist Yana Wells to give weddings and functions something lighter and more modern than the traditional quartet. The core line-up is Yana on violin, Rebecca Sullivan on violin and viola, Brigette Smith on viola and Katherine Hopkins on cello. The group scales to suit the event. A couple can book one violinist for a ceremony, a duo or trio for a smaller room, or the full quartet for a bigger celebration, and electric violin and pop strings are offered for functions that want more energy. Song choices lean towards contemporary covers, with a classical list that takes in Pachelbel, Bach, Vivaldi and Mendelssohn. There is also a dedicated selection of Bridgerton-style pop arrangements, a popular choice for couples planning a romantic, ballroom-inspired day. Beyond weddings, the players perform at corporate functions, restaurant launches, formal balls and special birthdays. Gold Coast clients named by the group include The Star, The Langham, QT, The Valley Estate, Sanctuary Cove and The Sheraton Grand. That means the players are used to working around the running sheet of a large venue as well as a private garden. Each member has a long classical background, with diplomas and orchestral experience among the group. Frequently asked questions
What ensemble sizes can we book from Estrella Strings?
You can book a solo violinist, a violin duo, a string trio or the full quartet. The right size usually depends on the room, the guest list and how prominent you want the music to be.
What kind of music does the group play?
The focus is fresh, light pop arranged for strings, alongside classical standards such as Canon in D, Ave Maria and Air on a G String. Bridgerton-style versions of chart songs are also on the list.
Does Estrella Strings play events other than weddings?
Yes. Alongside wedding ceremonies, the group performs at corporate functions, restaurant launches, formal balls and special birthdays, including stage appearances at large gala evenings.
Where on the Gold Coast has the group performed?
Clients named by the group include The Star, The Langham, QT, The Valley Estate, Sanctuary Cove and The Sheraton Grand, and the solo violinist also takes bookings on Tamborine Mountain.
Is electric violin available for a function?
Yes. Electric violin and pop strings are both offered for special events, which suits a function that wants a more upbeat sound than a seated acoustic quartet would give.
