About Gold Coast Lion Dancing
Gold Coast Lion Dancing is the performance team of the Gold Coast Mantis Kung Fu Academy, a martial arts school that trains in Traditional Chinese Lion Dancing alongside Southern Praying Mantis kung fu, tai chi and qi gong. Its performers come to corporate and private functions and give an event a colourful, high-energy centrepiece. The collection is the main draw. Organisers can choose from more than 20 lions, each with its own colours, size and style, and the pride also takes in two vibrant dragons measuring five metres. LED lions are available when an occasion calls for something that shows up after dark. The team can go beyond the lions as well. Demonstration groups present kung fu, weaponry, tai chi and qi gong, with choreographed self-defence scenarios covering hand-to-hand combat, weapons and group situations. That gives a function a choice between a traditional lion performance, an action-based martial arts display, or a mix of the two. Companies can also talk to the academy about its team-building programs, which use Eastern and Western techniques to help staff manage stress and work better together. The academy trains around the Gold Coast, including at Carrara, in the Palm Beach and Currumbin area, and at the Pimpama School of Arts Hall. Fees are not published, so send an enquiry with the date, venue and type of event for a quote.
