Next Level Escape works from the lower ground floor of 23 O'Connell Street, and over in Darlinghurst, Strange World Escape Rooms runs its live-actor horror comedy on Flinders Street. Across in Chippendale, The Cool Space Escape Rooms plays two games its founders designed and built themselves, upstairs at 134 Abercrombie Street.

Trains, light rail, ferries and buses all converge on this part of Sydney, so gathering a group from different suburbs is rarely a problem.

Matching a CBD venue to the occasion:

Drinks after: Escape Hunt holds a liquor licence and has a lounge where the group can have a drink afterwards, from $40 per person.
Longer games: Next Level Escape runs most of its in-house games for 75 minutes, from $60 per person.
Very large groups: up to 50 players can be spread across the rooms at Escape This, from $55 per person, and all of Escape Hunt can be hired for up to 72.
Birthdays: Ice Break Escape Room keeps your cake in the fridge and can hide a gift in the room, from $55 per person.
Adult comedy-horror: Cabin Cult at Strange World puts a live actor in the game and lets your group choose how scary it is, from $65 per person.

Horror fans have plenty to pick from: several Escape This rooms are strictly 18+ and check ID, live actors drive the tension in Redemption at Ice Break, and Strange World dials its scares up or down on request, while Seance at The Cool Space is a seated game with live actors and jump scares, not recommended under 16. Families should look at Pirates at Escape This or Legacy at Ice Break, which is suitable from age eight.

Escape Hunt's games involve no strenuous activity and no flashing lights, and most rooms are wheelchair accessible.
Ex Libris and The Game at Next Level Escape are fully wheelchair accessible.
Escape This rooms have panic buttons, and Next Level Escape's doors have emergency exit buttons. The Cool Space is reached by stairs, so it isn't wheelchair accessible.
Strange World's Cabin Cult needs at least two players willing to crawl.

Next Level Escape bundles the game with food and drinks at partner venues close by.
Escape Hunt's rooftop space on Level 7 can be hired for food, cake and longer celebrations.
Ice Break has no catering, but cake is welcome and staff will store it.

What's the largest group a CBD escape venue can take?

Hire the whole of Escape Hunt and up to 72 guests get all six rooms plus the lounge to themselves. Escape This can spread up to 50 over several rooms, and Ice Break fits 28 across its Level 10 floor. The Cool Space can run its two games side by side for a birthday crowd or work team when times are arranged with the studio. Entermission on Kent Street takes up to 30 players, split into private teams of six that race each other through the same VR game.

Are any city escape games longer than an hour?

Next Level Escape runs most games for 75 minutes, and Forest of Echoes for 90. At Ice Break, Redemption and Eyes of Argos both last 80 minutes.

Which CBD rooms are strictly adults only?

At Escape This, Cannibal, Buried Alive and Asylum are 18+ with ID checks. Strange World recommends Cabin Cult for 15 and over because of its swearing and adult humour.
