Mosman sits on the lower north shore, built around the water, and in December that matters. The Spit end of the suburb looks down Middle Harbour, so an evening function comes with boats going past the windows rather than a view of a car park. Work parties and family groups want different things from the same room. One wants a long lunch that grandparents and kids can both sit through; the other wants a late licence and a dancefloor. Work out which you are running before you enquire; it changes the time of day, the menu and the budget.
A few things to sort out before you commit to a date:
Lock in the date and a realistic headcount first. Seating plan, run sheet and whether you need the whole room or a section are easier to settle once those are fixed, and a venue can give you a firmer answer on food and drinks when it knows how many people are genuinely coming. If your numbers are still moving in November, say so early rather than hoping it sorts itself out.
December fills earlier than any other month, and Friday and Saturday nights in the first three weeks go first. If those dates matter to you, start enquiring by winter. Midweek bookings, lunches and mid-January dates are usually much easier to secure at short notice.
There is no train station in Mosman, so guests come by bus along Military Road and Spit Road, by ferry to Mosman Bay or Taronga Zoo wharves, or by car and rideshare. Parking around Spit Road can be tight on weekends and through summer. Put the transport options on the invitation and organise a pickup point for the end of the night.
The Function Room @ The Boathouse at the Spit takes up to 450 guests cocktail style, or 300 seated with a dancefloor. Operable walls divide the room, so a smaller work party or family lunch can use a section rather than sitting in a half-empty hall.
