About Bar @ Golden Age Cinema & Bar
Golden Age Cinema & Bar occupies a heritage-listed theatrette on Commonwealth Street, in the part of Surry Hills that was once Sydney's Hollywood quarter. The building went up in 1940 and was Paramount Pictures' Sydney home until the 1970s — screening newsreels for servicemen and women during the war — and since 2013 it has been an independent cinema with a David Lynch-inspired bar, live music and film trivia. The bar is the room people fall for: dim warm lighting, plush velvet curtains, leather seats and mahogany walls. It holds up to 70 cocktail-style or around 35 in a relaxed seated format. It comes equipped with stage and sound gear and a hidden mirrored stage, which makes speeches, a live act or a short performance easy to stage. Food and drink packages are curated by the venue, with a seasonal menu and carefully made cocktails, and extensive vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. External catering is possible for a buyout fee. It suits a birthday with some theatre to it, a brand activation, a team celebration or an intimate wedding party.
