Cork & Chroma, Holt Street, Surry Hills: about three hours on a 40 x 50cm canvas, and a private group of at least 10 paid seats may paint any piece it likes from the studio's range, from $69 per person.
Sydney Creative, 140 Regent Street, Redfern: textured painting with a palette knife, from an ombre background to raised petals or waves, private parties of 10 to 30, from $75 per person.

Hustle Studios is a short walk from Central Station, with its door around the corner on Rutland Street, and Cork & Chroma recommends Central or the light rail because street parking near Holt Street is limited.

Hens: Sydney Creative sets out a bride-to-be banner, a peacock chair, flowers and a small gift for the bride, and Pinot & Picasso runs three-hour hens packages themed Mamma Mia, Country Nights or Swiftie Era

What should we bring to a city paint and sip?

Your own drinks at all five. Cork & Chroma is BYO food too, with glassware and a fridge supplied but plates and serving gear up to you, Sydney Creative has glasses, a 124 litre bar fridge and grazing boards, and Pinot & Picasso suggests clothes you don't mind getting paint on.

Will the painting be dry enough to take home that night?

At Cork & Chroma everyone leaves with a finished canvas. Sydney Creative's textured paintings take one to three days to dry, so many guests come back to collect them.

Which studio suits a group of only four or five?

Hustle Studios runs Paint and Plant for as few as four, and Pinot & Picasso lets groups under 15 reserve a section of a public class. Cork & Chroma's evening public sessions sell single seats.

Anything to know before booking Hustle Studios?

The studio is up a flight of stairs and pets are often around. Every class there is a private group booking arranged by email, and guests can bring food as well as drinks.
