Alcotraz is an immersive cocktail experience on Chippen Street in Chippendale, set inside a mock penitentiary built with real metal cells. Guests change into orange jumpsuits on arrival, are given a character and backstory, and become the newest inmates. Actors play the Warden, crooked guards and fellow prisoners, and the plot runs on smuggling contraband into cocktails without getting caught. You can throw yourself into the story, side with an inmate gang or snitch to the Warden, or simply sit in your cell and watch it unfold while the inmate bartenders mix your drinks. Each ticket covers the 1 hour 45 minute show and four rounds of drinks. The Guilty ticket comes with four cocktails, with beer or wine available instead, and the Innocent ticket swaps them for four mocktails. Cells seat up to six, so booking four to six guests keeps a cell to yourselves. Groups of up to 30 can book directly online, while larger groups and dates more than three months out go through the enquiry form. Private events and team bonding packages cater for up to 60 guests, with drinks selections, venue hire for two or four hours and catering available. Birthday and hens or bucks packages are aimed at groups of 30 or more, and you can book the guest of honour or the boss in as the Janitor character. The venue is indoors and air-conditioned, and snacks can be bought during the show. It is strictly 18 and over with valid ID. Wear light clothing, as the jumpsuit goes on over the top. There is street parking and paid parking nearby, though public transport via Central or Redfern is the easier option.
