King Ludwigs is a German, Bavarian and Austrian restaurant with a beer and wine bar on Mountain View Road, high on the ridge above Maleny. Its balconies look out across the hinterland to the Glass House Mountains, and the dining room is warmed by open fireplaces. The restaurant is run by an Austrian host who holds a WSET Diploma in wine. The kitchen sticks to classic dishes such as pretzels with Obatzda cheese spread, schnitzels, beef goulash, sausages and a pork knuckle slow-cooked for four hours. Weddings are a big part of the function side. Ceremonies can be held at the garden gazebo, followed by drinks with the view and a reception meal in the restaurant, with room to dance afterwards. The venue seats up to 100 guests for a wedding, or takes up to 150 for a cocktail-style reception, and menus are tailored to each couple. Companies can book the restaurant for a private party on dates of their choosing, including end-of-financial-year celebrations. Groups of 20 or more choose from three set menus, Augsburg at $69, Nürnberg at $79 and München at $89 per person, each with shared starters, a choice of mains and desserts.
