About Kombi Weddings

Kombi Weddings is a Northern Beaches business run by Wendy and Stephen, who have been driving couples to their weddings since 1990. Instead of a sedan or limousine, the fleet is three lovingly rebuilt Volkswagen Kombis, all assembled at the Volkswagen plant in Victoria, and the couple drive them to every booking themselves. Each van has its own story. Evie is a 1959 Type 1 split screen found in a farm shed in country New South Wales, then rebuilt with a new engine, suspension, brakes, interior and sound system, and she won a Shannons Show and Shine award. George is a 1962 split screen that spent decades in a Canberra garage, is still entirely original metal, wears Volkswagen red and brown, and took a People's Choice award at the VW Nationals. Jo is a 1971 Low Light Deluxe in blue and white that won first in class at the Nationals in 2012 and 2013, and she has appeared in magazine, television and retail campaigns. A booking covers the pick-up, the run to the ceremony with the driver waiting through the service, photo stops and the drop-off at the reception. Each Kombi is dressed with white satin ribbon and carries an ice-filled esky, cold water, champagne flutes, umbrellas and a bridal emergency kit. The business recommends about five people per van so the bride has room, and most weddings book two, one for the groomsmen and one for the bridesmaids. The vans are right-hand drive, so passengers step out onto the footpath, though like most classics they have no air conditioning. Prices depend on how long you need the vans and where the day takes place, and there is a reduced rate when both are booked together. Spring to autumn books out well ahead, often 12 to 18 months, so send your date and venues early and ask for a viewing if you want to see the Kombis first.
