You'll find Sora Rooftop Bar up on level 9 of 285 Clarence Street, in the western part of the CBD roughly midway between Wynyard and Town Hall. The rooftop terrace and bar is semi-private, looks out over the city skyline from height, and is geared towards a high-energy party with music at the centre instead of a quiet seated dinner. Inside, the fit-out borrows from a nightclub: dark flooring, stone panels lit from behind, narrow banquettes, metal trims and dim LED lighting. Bartenders run a cocktail bar, tables and chairs can be moved around, and an open area for standing guests becomes a small dance floor. Capacity is 130 standing or 70 seated. Glazing on the rooftop brings in daylight, and the space is air-conditioned. Sound is where Sora stands out. The venue has a purpose-built audio setup, so you're free to book your own DJ, who can plug straight into the installed PA through fixed wired connections. Food is Japanese-inspired, and vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free guests have plenty to choose from. With an $11,000 minimum spend it sits at the premium end, best for a major birthday, a company party or a product launch.
