About Gladdy Drawing Club
Gladdy Drawing Club runs life drawing on level 1 of The Lord Gladstone Hotel on Regent Street in Chippendale. It is hosted by artists Noni Cragg and Total Bore, with a different professional model each week and the model posed in the middle of the room so everyone draws from their own angle. The feel is closer to an art club than a lesson: beginners sit alongside illustrators, architects, animators and designers, and nobody is judged on their work. For groups, the club takes private bookings for workplaces and special occasions, either at the pub or at another venue. It has run pop-up classes for companies including Optus, Ogilvy and General Pants Co, and it hosts hens parties and mixed hens and bucks groups when the fit is right. It does not run bucks parties. Private events are arranged directly with the organisers by email, so there is no fixed package price. Anyone wanting to try it first can join a public class, held every Tuesday at 6pm and 8pm for $22 a ticket, limited to twenty people. Each session lasts an hour and a half. It opens with a run of two-minute and five-minute poses, breaks for drinks, then moves to longer standing, seated and reclining poses, with the class voting on some of the pose lengths. Paper, pencils, charcoal and masonite drawing boards are supplied, though you are welcome to bring your own sketchbook. The club describes itself as a safe space for women and the LGBTQIA+ community, which makes it a thoughtful choice for a hens group or a creative team outing.
