About Ommi's Catering
Ommi's Catering is an Asian fusion catering company run out of a shop in Summer Hill in Sydney's inner west. It was founded by Taiwanese chef Omar Hsu, who spent more than 20 years working under Matt Moran at Aria, Chiswick and Barangaroo House. The food mixes Taiwanese street snacks and Japanese dishes with a fine-dining finish. Think pork belly gua bao, Peking duck pancake rolls, lobster salad in wonton cups, sashimi platters and grilled skewers. For a big celebration there is a whole roast suckling pig served with bao. There are two ways to book. The online shop sells ready-made packages that are delivered in disposable trays or picked up from Summer Hill. The canape package gives each guest three bites and two substantial items for $35 per person, and the premium version has seven bites and two substantials for $55 per person. Both need at least 20 guests. Shared packages such as the Asian Buffet, Taiwanese Snacking and Premium Dinner come in two sizes, for 12 or 24 people, or 8 or 16 for the dinner. Dishes are tagged for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and halal diets. For bigger events, Ommi's quotes a full service. That can include themed food stations, live chef cooking on-site, roaming canapes with waitstaff, sit-down menus of three to eight courses, bar and wine service, and extra staff. The team also styles events, including floral table settings, backdrops, and Lunar New Year and Chinese wedding decoration. It suits cocktail parties, product launches, weddings, milestone birthdays and office functions.

Frequently asked questions
What does the $35 canape package include?
Each guest gets three canapes and two substantial items, such as corn tartlets, lobster salad in wonton cups and pork belly bao. There is a 20-guest minimum, and GST is added on top.
Is there a minimum order for delivery?
Yes. Online orders have a minimum spend of $500 plus GST from Monday to Friday, and $800 plus GST on weekends. Delivery fees are extra, and weekend and public holiday surcharges apply.
How far ahead do I need to order?
Online orders need three business days' notice, and each delivery day has its own 3pm cut-off. Late orders may be accepted if there is capacity, with a 10 per cent surcharge. For a fully serviced event, contact them for a quote as early as you can.
Can they cook at the venue rather than deliver?
Yes. For events they can run live cooking stations, such as noodles, Japanese hot food or Taiwanese street food, as well as sushi and dessert stations, roaming canapes with waitstaff, and plated sit-down dinners.
Where do they deliver?
They deliver across Sydney, with deliveries between 10am and 7pm in a one-hour window. You can also pick up from the Summer Hill shop.
