About Get on a Boat

Get on a Boat is a Sydney Harbour charter business that owns and manages its own boats and also books an extended fleet of yachts, catamarans and superyachts from partner operators. The featured owner-operated boats include Passion, a 60-foot sailing catamaran for up to 43 guests; Kondor, a party boat known for frozen strawberry daiquiris and margaritas, a commercial-grade sound and lighting system and a dance floor; and Galaxy I, a 27-metre superyacht for up to 47 guests. The wider list includes the Seawind catamaran Alila for 30, the motor yachts Mayfair and MV Highlander for smaller groups, and YOT Viva, an 80-foot vessel for up to 80. The team runs birthday parties, bucks and hens parties, Christmas parties, corporate events and New Year's Eve cruises. Bucks groups can add waitresses and entertainment, hens groups can decorate the boat, choose a menu and plan swim stops, and corporate clients use Galaxy I and Passion for product launches, client hospitality and staff celebrations. Most boats have a BBQ with crew to cook, Bluetooth sound, a swim platform and a lily pad, with kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for hire on some. Charters are private and priced by the hour, with a standard four-hour charter on Passion. Catering and all-inclusive drinks packages are available, or you can BYO for a per-head fee, and the team can collect drinks and pre-load the boat before you board. Guests can be picked up from more than 25 wharves, from Circular Quay and King Street Wharf to Rose Bay, Balmain and Mosman Bay, with extra fees for Manly and the Parramatta River.

Pricing

Passion is priced for a standard four-hour charter: from April to October it is $775 an hour Sunday to Friday and $875 on Saturdays; from November to March it is $875 and $925. Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Australia Day and New Year's Day are $1,250 an hour and other public holidays $1,200. The captain and deckhand are included for up to 20 guests, with an extra staff member at $300 for 21 to 32 guests and two at $600 for 33 to 43; 18th and 21st birthdays need one extra staff member at $300. BYO food and BYO drinks are $5 per person each, ice is $8 a bag, CBD wharf fees are $50 each, pre-loading is $150, drinks collection $100 and paddleboards $50 each. How We Work

Send an enquiry with your preferred boat, date, pick-up wharf, guest numbers and occasion, and the team will hold the date and quote. The crew can help plan the itinerary, catering and drinks, decorations and entertainment, and can pre-load the boat or collect a drinks order before you board. A deposit of 20% or the full vessel hire fee confirms the booking, with the balance due 14 days out. On the day the skipper and crew run the boat, cook on the BBQ and serve food and drinks, and a credit card bond is held and returned within seven days if there is no damage.

How much does a charter cost?

On Passion, a standard four-hour charter is $775 an hour Sunday to Friday and $875 on Saturdays from April to October, and $875 to $925 from November to March. Public holidays are $1,200 to $1,250 an hour. Other boats in the fleet are quoted on enquiry.

How many guests can the boats take?

It depends on the boat: MV Highlander takes 18, Mayfair 25, Alila 30, Passion 43, Kondor and Galaxy I 47 each, and YOT Viva up to 80. Crew and entertainers count towards the maximum.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Yes on most boats. On Passion BYO food and BYO drinks are $5 per person each, and groups over 30 must bring pre-cooked or catered food. Catering and all-inclusive drinks packages are also available.

Where can we be picked up?

From wharves across the harbour, including Circular Quay, King Street Wharf, Woolloomooloo, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Mosman Bay, Lavender Bay, Balmain and Drummoyne. Manly and the Parramatta River wharves cost extra, and CBD wharf fees on Passion are $50 each.

What deposit is needed to book?

A deposit of 20% of the total, or the full vessel hire fee, is paid on booking, and the balance is due 14 days before the charter. Deposits for November, December and public-holiday bookings are non-refundable, and a $1,000 credit card bond is held on the day.
