About The Decoy Paddle Steamer
The Decoy is a paddle steamer that has long been a fixture of the South Perth foreshore, berthed at the Mends Street Jetty. A 2024 refit gave the hull a fresh marine colour scheme, a rebuilt bar on the lower deck with new commercial equipment and an espresso machine, and new covers and clears on the upper deck. At the back of the lower deck sits the exposed 1905 twin cylinder steam engine, which guests can watch working alongside the turning paddles as the boat moves. Upstairs, the covered deck keeps the weather out while leaving open views across the Swan River to the city skyline and Kings Park. The vessel is booked privately for groups of 60 to 190. It suits a cocktail event for 80 or more, or a seated meal for up to 80. Standard charters run for three hours in a late morning, late afternoon or evening slot, and other times can be arranged. Catering comes from a group of Perth providers, from freshly cooked paella and grazing tables to canapes and buffets, and dietary needs can be built into the menu. Corporate functions, Christmas parties, birthdays, anniversaries, school formals, product launches and EDM nights all feature on its calendar. Couples can book an elopement, an intimate ceremony or a full reception with all-inclusive wedding packages. For groups too small for an exclusive charter, Ready Set Parties offer a three-hour cruise with live music and a dedicated area on the front deck.
