About Out Bush Adventures
Out Bush Adventures is a small Perth Hills outfit run by founder and guide Kieran, who is a certified abseiling instructor and 4WD instructor with wilderness first aid training. Its abseiling outings take place at Mountain Quarry in Boya, a former granite mine that now offers some well-known abseiling walls close to the city. Each trip begins on a 20 metre overhang, where newcomers get used to the harness, the descender and the feel of leaning back over an edge. Once everyone is comfortable, the group moves to the 60 metre big wall. Most outings fit in two or three abseils over three to four hours, and nobody needs to be especially fit or experienced to take part. Sessions run in daylight seven days a week between 9am and 6pm. There is also an evening option that starts in the late afternoon and carries on after dark, with the lights of Perth spread out below the quarry. Night trips end with bubbles or a craft beer back at the base, and soft drinks or water are on hand for anyone who prefers them. All the technical gear is supplied and fitted by the guide, including helmets, harnesses, ropes and descenders. Guests just need comfortable sports clothes without anything loose, such as skirts or dresses. The team also runs guided canoe trips, climbing outings and 4WD training, and can put together a tailored outing for a group with something particular in mind.

Frequently asked questions
Do we need any abseiling experience or a high level of fitness?
No. The outings are pitched at beginners, starting on a 20 metre overhang to learn technique before moving to the 60 metre wall, and the guide talks everyone through each safety step.
How much does an abseiling outing cost?
The abseiling adventure is $175 a person, or $300 for a couple. Optional extras are listed at $35 a person, and an adventure meal can be added for $50.
What should we wear?
Wear comfortable gym or sports clothing. Loose items such as dresses and skirts are not allowed because they can catch in the gear, and the helmet, harness and ropes are supplied.
How long does it take and how many abseils do we get?
Allow three to four hours. Most groups complete two or three abseils in that time, starting on the smaller overhang and finishing on the 60 metre big wall.
Where do we meet?
Outings meet at Mountain Quarry in Boya, reached off Coulston Road. Once a booking is confirmed, the guide passes on a gate code, which lets you drive right to the foot of the quarry.
