Eleanor For Hire is a Revesby business built around one of the most recognisable cars in film: a 1967 Shelby GT500 fastback Mustang in Eleanor form, the car that starred in Gone in 60 Seconds. It was sourced in California, shipped to Australia and rebuilt from the ground up in a restoration that cost more than $100,000, and it keeps its left-hand drive. Most bookings are weddings, where the Mustang is a bold alternative to a white vintage sedan. The owner, known to customers as Baz, drives the car himself, and reviews mention him arriving on time, carrying on through a storm without fuss and offering to take photos. Couples have booked it for as little as two hours to cover the ceremony and pictures. Is this the real Eleanor from the movie?
It is a genuine 1967 Shelby GT500 fastback built to the Eleanor look made famous by the 2000 film Gone in 60 Seconds. It was imported from California and fully restored in Australia, and it is still left-hand drive.
Can I drive the Mustang myself?
No. The car is always chauffeured, so you ride as a passenger. The 60-minute Shelby experience sold through RedBalloon is also a passenger ride, not a self-drive.
How much does it cost to hire the Eleanor Mustang?
Rates are not published. Send the date, times and pick-up and drop-off addresses for a quote. Once you accept, a deposit of normally $200 locks in the booking, and the balance is paid at least seven days before a wedding by direct deposit or cash.
What happens if the booking runs overtime?
If the day runs past the agreed hours for reasons outside the business's control, extra time is charged at $35 for each 15 minutes, and card details are taken to cover it.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancelling a deposited booking costs half the total hire price. Inside three months of a wedding there is no refund and the balance must still be paid, although credit towards a later hire may be offered at the owner's discretion.
