Corporate Amazing Race is the race-event arm of Tailored Team Building, run from an office in Belrose on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Borrowing its format from the television show, it splits your guests into small teams, hands each one a sealed envelope and sends them off to solve clues leading to a string of checkpoints. At every stop a host sets a task, anything from puzzles and riddles to photo missions and quick physical challenges, and the next envelope is only handed over once it's done. There's no app involved: the crew staffs each checkpoint in person. Despite the name, the team designs races for private celebrations as well as workplaces. Birthday groups, hens and bucks parties (joint ones included) and friends catching up can all have a course built around them, with personal questions, in-jokes or a surprise twist worked in; one Sydney race even finished with a marriage proposal. Most races are on foot over three to five kilometres, while self-drive and public transport versions cover more ground, and multi-city races link groups in different places. Around Sydney, favourite playing fields include the CBD, Barangaroo, The Rocks and Darling Harbour. A typical race lasts two to two and a half hours, with half-day and full-day options for bigger outings. Races are pitched at groups of ten or more and scale to several hundred players, though small celebrations of under fifteen are also taken on. Wear comfortable walking shoes and think about costumes, since dress-ups are encouraged. Food and drinks aren't part of the race, but routes are often planned to finish at a bar, restaurant or winery so the celebration rolls straight on. Each event is quoted individually, and a 20 per cent deposit holds the date.
