About The Tea Cosy
The Tea Cosy occupies a heritage-listed 1880s building on Atherden Street in The Rocks, a short walk from the Harbour Bridge and right among The Rocks Markets. The draw is scones baked on the premises throughout the day, served with double thick cream and Australian-made jam, alongside teas poured from fine china pots under hand-knitted cosies. For something more substantial, The Grandstand is a three-tiered stand of egg and chive finger sandwiches, a warm cheddar and leek quiche and the day's scones. For celebrations there are three private rooms, each booked against a minimum spend rather than a hire fee, with everything ordered on the day counting towards it. The Ladies' Parlour is a light, semi-private room downstairs for six to nine guests. Nanna's Nook is a fully private upstairs room for four to eight with a record player and a window over the markets. Pop's Place is the largest, for eight to 14 guests, and comes with dedicated wait staff, extra time to decorate and glimpses of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Rooms are generally booked for two-hour sittings in morning or afternoon slots, and the weekend minimum spends are $300, $370 and $500, with weekday rates on request. The two upstairs rooms are reached by very steep stairs, so they don't suit prams, young children or anyone with mobility concerns. You can bring your own cake for a $3 per person cakeage fee. It suits birthday lunches, engagement or hens gatherings and family catch-ups for smaller groups who want a quiet, traditional setting.
